Pompano Beach Warehouse

Pompano Beach Warehouse

The facility manager at this Pompano Beach warehouse had been dealing with the same problem for years — by early afternoon in summer, the inside of the building felt like an oven. The metal roof was soaking up heat all day with nothing between it and the interior, and the HVAC system was running nonstop just trying to keep up. Electricity bills were painful, and the staff wasn’t happy.

We sprayed 5.5 inches of open-cell foam across the full 18,000 sq ft underside of that roof deck. Open-cell made more sense here than closed-cell — the surface area was huge, the budget needed to work, and the sound dampening was a bonus for a working facility. Getting to R-20 on a metal roof makes a serious difference. The foam essentially decouples the metal from the interior air so it stops acting like a giant radiator. The facility manager tracked their electricity for the following summer and came back to us with a 31% drop in consumption compared to the year before. The crew also noticed the place was noticeably quieter — that open-cell does a good job absorbing noise off the metal panels.
